About the KOCUN-IDP

The Korean Organizing Committee for United Nations International Day of Peace (KOCUN-IDP) is a very specific civic-driven group and member organization of the International Day of Peace NGO  Committee at the United Nations.

The Committee has been established for not-for-profit purposes, in particular to support global peace-building through a event of the International Day of Peace. The committee was launched in 2008 thanks to the efforts of Susan Manuel-a director of the Department of Public Information (DPI) at the United Nations. Many of peace builders have participated in Peace Day movement and this peace activities has been sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2012.

The committee is the largest civic-driven grassroots peace network with chapters and affiliates in states across the country. Our greatest mission is to promote the values of peace and its importance in global and local level. To do this, we not only made effort consistently to communicate with the public, but also organized the event as a communication platform among all peace builders.

In Republic of Korea, the event has been organized officially by the KOCUN-IDP since 2008. UN agencies, governments, NGO/NPOs, companies, and youths have participated in the event to celebrate the Peace Day. After the KOCUN-IDP's 10th anniversary of 2018, the committee has had 'Dialogue for Peace' series such as 'Dialogue among Global Citizens', 'Dialogue among Civilizations', and 'Intergenerational Dialogue'.

The KOCUN-IDP promotes cultural exchange and global citizenship education to make global fellowship and universal recognition of global peace through a 'Dialogue among Civilizations' program based on dialogue and participation activities. It is because that a dialogue is a starting point to build credibility with each other that can overcome cultural misunderstandings and distortion. To do this, we have taken actions with international, interfaith, interethnic, intergenerational, and interdisciplinary approaches through various programs such as campaign, conference, education, and networking event.
"Dialogue for Understanding, Participation for Trust."
